You're ordering a card and you are trying to work out what a "Card for their support workers" is. Let's dive in and understand what this is, what the use case is and how to effectively use it.

What's a Supporter Card?
A Supporter Card is for support workers that are going to pay for things on behalf of a participant. This helps us track which support workers are using the card and separate the participant card from the supporter.
A supporter card will generally be named the participant's first name and 'Supporter' as the last name (e.g John Supporter).
What Are The Benefits Of Using Supporter Cards?
- Added safety features
- Onboard a support worker in minutes
- You're able to track the exact person who is paying and responsible for the receipt
- Support workers can have their own login details and don't need to share one
- Gold standard accountability for support workers and managers
How Does The Checkout Process Work?
An added safety feature of the Supporter card is that the money is not available on the card at all times. This prevents support workers mistakenly picking up the wrong card or spending without accountability.
The checkout process requires the Support Worker to login to their SpendAble account at the start of the shift and fill in the checkout form:

Once the support worker has checked out the Supporter Card, they will be able to use it for the duration they selected (4 hours in the picture above).
What Are The Added Safety Features?
- Money isn't on the card unless it is checked out. At the end of that period the money is not available on the card.
- If a card is lost if can't be used by people unless they login and check out the card.
- Track agency or staff not from your organsiation by getting them to login and use this card.
- You always know who has custody of the money because the support worker with the card has checked it out.
- You get a record of which support worker is paying at all times.
- Participant's don't need to share the PIN of their participant card.
How Do I Onboard A Supporter In 4 mins?
You can onboard a new support worker within minutes from the dashboard as a Super Admin.
Simply click onboard user, fill in their details and connect them to the wallet you want them to access.

Once they are added, they will get a welcome email to activate their account and set their password.
After that they will be able to login and complete the checkout process.
How Does This Work With Agency or Casual Staff?
You should onboard each staff individually if possible. The requirements for setting up their account is an email, phone number, name and address.
Some providers also create an account for the agency as a whole and their support workers login to that account. This still allows you to monitor when the agency staff are spending but you won't have the individual's name. We recommend doing each user individually but understand different ways work for different providers.
Onboard them in the SpendAble Hub and have them walking out the door with the supporter card in minutes with peace of mind that you're covered.
I Just Want Staff To Walk In And Pick Up The Card and It Is Ready To Pay...
Unfortunately, the Supporter Card does not facilitate this because of the way the safety and accountability features work.
If you want to forego the safety, accountability and data features and are firm about wanting to make it possible for support workers to just pick up the card and pay then we recommend only ordering a participant card.
This means that any money added to the participant card will be available without needing a check out. Support workers will walk in and pick up the participant card and pay using it.
We caution against this though because it can lead to:
- Potential environmental restrictive practices
- Potential customer complaints
- Poor receipt compliance
- Complicated investigations of funds misuse
- No accountability of support workers
- Potential budget over spends
